The Capital Area Chapter includes the communities in York, Sunbury and Queens counties. We are very active in promoting awareness of Irish-New Brunswick culture and heritage in our area. We actively support the Stanford School of Irish Dance through the donation of a bursary each year as well as through co-promotion of activities of the Dance School. We work cooperatively with St. Thomas University's Irish Studies Program and the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick to identify and further develop resources for Irish/New Brunswick studies and research, and we organize or participate in other Irish-related events in the community throughout the year:
February - Celebrate Heritage Week with a special Irish evening with music, literary readings and refreshments
March - Irish Week, inlcuding a Celtic evening and many other St. Patrick's week activities
June - Bloomsday - (A celebration of James Joyce's and other Irish authors' works.)
July - Miramichi Irish Festival (assist in manning the ICCANB booth)
September - Annual fall barbeque for members and guests
November - Tellabration! - An international storytelling event - we celebrate by gathering at a local venue to showcase the art of storytelling - an ancient Irish tradition.
December - Christmas in Killarney (dinner and Irish entertainment for members and guests)
In addition to these regularly-scheduled activities, the Capital Area Chapter organizes Irish Film Nights, workshops on Celtic Art, language, storytelling, music and dance, and has a large Celtic Harp available for experienced teachers to share their talent with students wishing to learn to play this instrument.
