Created in 1984, the WAK (Moncton) Chapter was the first chapter formed in the province. The Chapter has memberships from the tri-county area of southeastern New Brunswick. There were several large Irish communities in the area, which included Irishtown, Melrose, New Ireland and South Branch. There were also several smaller pockets of Irish settlers throughout Westmorland, Albert and Kent counties.

We have done a great deal to foster an awareness of our Irish past in this region. A large monument stands in Riverfront Park in downtown Moncton. The Irish Families Memorial is dedicated to all of the Irish emigrant families to the tri-county area and contains the names of many of the families who settled in the region. A smaller monument with family settler names stands at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Irishtown and we are presently working towards similar monuments for Albert County, Kent County and Melrose, NB.

Also, we are very proud of the fact that the City of Moncton is twinned with Galway, Ireland.

We meet at various times throughout the year and hold several musical events, lectures and social gatherings. If you would like to join our Chapter or receive additional infromation, please contact us at the email address above.
