William Beairsto born 4 Oct 1716 at Boston. s/o William and Elizabeth (Walker) Beairsto. His 1st marriage was on 16 Mar 1738 at Boston, MA, to Hannah Jackson d/o Ephraim Jackson, b. - , d. prob. before 1770. The family came to Halifax, NS about 1748. In the 1752 census William was listed as an army captain with 3 males and 1 female under the age of 16. By 1764 the family had moved to Cumberland County, NS which became part of NB. The 1770 census shows 4 females under 16 at home. children: 1) William Beairsto b. c1739 2) Johnson Beairsto b. c1741. Moved to PEI by 1780, m. Anne Hyde 3) son b. c1748 4) a daughter born before 1752 and buried 24 Jun 1752 in Halifax, NS 5) daughter b. after 1752, living in 1770 6) a daughter b. after 1752, living in 1770 His 2nd marriage was to Mehitabel Kinnear 7) a daughter - probably that of Mehitabel, unmarried in 1795. PANB:MC1/Beairsto, 80 pages: the file contains a copy of The Beairsto Family in America by Harold King Beairsto. There were four Beairsto brothers: Michael/Miles, William, George and John, who came from Yorkshire, England to Massachusetts in 1635. Descendants came to the Maritime Provinces. The genealogy deals with the PEI branch, a portion of which returned to live in Carleton County, NB. PANB:MC3/109 Louise Walsh Throop’s Early Settlers of Cumberland Township, Nova Scotia in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, page 185 says William’s second wife was Mehitabel Boyd b. - , d. after 29 Aug 1803. Mehitabel’s daughter Letitia Boyd born 1768 at Letterkenny, Donegal County, Ireland, died 1834, married Andrew Kinnear, a Commissary at Fort Cumberland for 30 years. Their children included Alexander Kinnear, George Kinnear, and Courtney Kinnear. A second daughter of Mehitabel Boyd b. c1769, m. Mr. Finney and had a daughter named Mary Ann Finney. |
