Fredericton: Thomas Carleton, born in County Tyrone, Ireland, a Colonel of the British 29th Regiment in the American Revolutionary War and appointed New Brunswick's first Governor in 1784. Thomas was the younger brother of Sir Guy Carleton, Lord Dorchester.

Miramichi Area

Miramichi and Saint John have long been locked in an ongoing "friendly discussion" as to which is the "most Irish" in the province. While each can lay claim to the title, depending of what factors are used in the determination, there can be no arguing where the biggest Irish-related party is in the province - Canada's Irish Festival in the Miramichi!!

Celebrating 25 years of this Irish event in 2008, the organizing committee always does a fantastic job in ensuring there is something of interest for everyone, young or old. People attend from all over the Maritimes and further afield including Ontario, Quebec, Maine and other Eastern Seaboard States. Throw in a few invitees directly from Ireland and a good time is always guaranteed!!
