Born, August 13th, 1845, at Newcastle, Northumberland County, N.B. Of Irish ancestry. Son of Samuel Adams(B.1815- D. Sept. 30, 1871, and his wife, Mary Anne _______________ (B. 1818 – D. April 23, 1874), both natives of Cork, Ireland.
Educated at the Newcastle Grammar School. Studied law in the office of the Hon. Edward Williston (q.v.), Judge of the County Court of N.B. Was admitted to the Bar of N.B. as an Attorney, October 14, 1868, and as a Barrister, October, 1869.
Located at Newcastle, N.B. and engaged in the practice of his profession. Was created a Q.C. in February, 1891.
Married (1st) _________________, 1869, to Miss Catherine L. Patterson, daughter of _______________ Patterson, Esq.,_______________. She died February 14, 1881. By this marriage there was a family of three children, all of whom died in infancy.
Married (2nd), November 29th, 1881, to Miss _______________ Nealis, daughter of Simon Nealis, Esq., Fredericton, N.B. By this marriage there was a family of ?
First elected to the House of Assembly of N.B., as one of the members for Northumberland County, at the G.E. of June, 1870, and sat as member in the Legislature until its dissoultion in 1874. At the G.E. of June, 1874, he was defeated, but was again elected to the House of Assembly at the G.E. of June, 1878. Re-elected at the bye-Election held August, 1878, made necessary by his acceptance of a Portfolio. Re-elected at the G.E.’s of June, 1882, and April 26, 1886, and sat as member until January, 1887, when he resigned his seat in order to contest the constituency of Northumberland for the House of Commons in the G.E. of that year.
On July 13th, 1878, he was sworn in a member of the Executive Council of N.B., and received the appointment of Surveyor General in the Administration of the Hon. John James Fraser (q.v.). He held this appointment in the Administration of the Hon. Daniel L. Hanington (q.v.) until February 26, 1883, when the Hanington Adm. resigned following a vote of non-confidence in the House.
Unsuccessfully contested the constituency of Northumberland for the House of Commons at the G.E. of Febuary 22nd, 1887.
First elected to the House of Commons, as member for Northumberland, at the G.E. of March 5th, 1891, and sat as member until January 7th, 1896, when he resigned his seat on being appointed to the Senate of Canada.
On January 7th, 1896, he was appointed to the Senate of Canada, vice the Hon. Kennedy F. Burns (q.v.), deceased, and sat as member in that House until his decease.
He died, January 1st, 1899, at his residence, Newcastle, N.B. aged fifty-three years. Survived by his widow and _______________ Buried in the R.C. Cemetery, Newcastle, N.B.
Mrs. Adams died August, 1922, at Finchburg, Mass., U.S.A.
